Image Sources
BackgroundImages can tell a compelling story. However one of the problems is obtaining useful images. Of course if possible one can take a photo or create a graphic image. However, there are stock photo collections that can be a great source and reduce time.
Image/clipart CollectionsThe word Clipart, comes from the concept of artwork being cut and glued into place before being photocopied. Clipart now primarily refers to electronic images that can be copied and placed in a document. Clipart can come from a number of different sources. There are many commercial CDs and online stock repositories with thousands of images. Clipart is easy to use and is often of professional quality, it can include shapes, photos, cartoons, etc.
Image sources can be put into three main categories:
Clipart/Image Abuse Obtained images are often abused because people don't spend enough time thinking through what the image communicates and determining if the style is compatible with the topic. It takes time; time to scan through images and find appropriate ones that match with the semantic and stylistic composition of the story. Use clipart effectively - too often it is used thoughtlessly. |
PurposeImages judged to link with the meaning, tone and style of the message can enhance understanding or emotional impact. Obtaining images from image repositories can greatly enhance the quality of the images and provide images that would be difficult to take or create.
